Library Book Returned To Virginia After 36-Year Journey Around The World

A library book has been returned to Chantilly Regional Library after 36 years of international travel. Harry The Dirty Dog was originally checked out November 6th, 1989 by diplomats living in Washington D.C. Their son Dimitris recently discovered the overdue book on his parents’ shelves in Greece, where they now live in retirement. “It traveled the world and was well taken care of as you can see. And now it can find its way home,” Dimitris wrote in a note accompanying the return. The Fairfax County Library system announced the book’s return on Facebook Thursday. “Thank you to Dimitris’ parents for taking such good care of our book and to Dimitris for helping the book find its way back to our shelves,” the library system wrote. Similar long-overdue returns have occurred recently, including one book returned to San Antonio Public Library after 82 years. (Story URL)
